Treasure

Imagine this:
You open your phone and see your entire bank balance wiped out. Nothing is there. Scary, right? Panic would set in, I am sure.

Now imagine this:
Your most treasured relationship. Think of them. Boom, it is ended. They are no longer in your life. You lost this treasured relationship. Hurts, right?

Now let me ask you. Which scenario hits harder for you?

In Matthew 6:21, it says “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

In this verse, Jesus is inviting us to do a heart check. He is, essentially, asking us what is most important in our lives. We live in a world obsessed with accumulating likes, followers, square footage, digits in our bank accounts… a luxurious life if you will. But Jesus flips the script, telling us that our hearts follow our investments, not the other way around.

What is it that keeps you up at night? What is the first thing you do in the morning when you wake up? These questions are a map leading to your heart.

Now I am not trying to make you feel guilty. But to become aware. You can enjoy the things in your life, but you need to understand the difference between owning things and being owned by said things.

Strive to invest in what truly satisfies. Which is faith, relationships, acts of kindness, and moments that echo into eternity. God, love, and relationships should trump all else. God wants your heart. And where you plant your treasure, that is where your heart will grow.

Are you storing up treasures that fade, or investing in what lasts forever?
