A reflection on John 14:15-21
Loneliness can sneak in quietly. It shows up in the in-between moments: after a conversation that didn’t go how you hoped, in a room full of people where you still feel invisible, or during those nights when your heart just aches for something more.
That’s where I found myself recently: spiritually dry, emotionally worn out, and not quite sure how to find my way back.
But today, for the first time in weeks, I opened my Bible and whispered a prayer. Just one chapter. Just one quiet moment. And somehow, that was enough.
I read John 14, and verses 15–21 stopped me with a gentle jolt of love I didn’t know I needed.
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”(John 14:18)
Those words met me right where I was—feeling untethered, unsure, and deeply in need of reassurance. Jesus promises something I’ve often forgotten: that I am not alone. That I’m not walking through uncertainty or longing or exhaustion by myself.
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever…” (John 14:16)
The Holy Spirit isn’t just a concept, it is God’s presence dwelling with me. Within me. Holding me steady even when my world feels unsteady. Reminding me of who I am, and whose I am.
"Because I live, you also will live.”(John 14:19)
That line breathed hope back into my bones. His life, His presence, is what revives mine. Even when I don’t feel “spiritual enough” or worthy enough. He shows up. Every time.
Today I’m reminding my heart:
I’m not forgotten. I’m not abandoned. I’m not invisible.
The Spirit of Truth walks with me through silence, through struggle, and through every unknown. And He will never leave.
So if you’ve been feeling alone too… maybe this was for you as well. You are seen. You are held. You are not an orphan.
You are seen. You are held. You are not an orphan. He has come. And He’s staying.
He has come. And He’s staying.
Jesus, Thank You for never leaving me alone.
When my heart feels heavy or forgotten, remind me that You are near.
Help me rest in the truth that Your Spirit lives within me; guiding, comforting, and holding me steady.
Even when I don’t have the words, You already know the ache.
I trust You to be with me in the waiting, in the healing, and in the everyday.
Amen.
Amen. The Lord is with us—come what may.
