I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us. — Romans 8:18
Life isn’t always gentle.
Some days leave us breathless… Not in awe, but in anguish. We carry heartache we didn’t ask for, endure silence from people we longed to hear from, and walk roads we never imagined we would have to walk. The world tells us to “tough it out,” but even that feels like too much when your spirit is tired and your hope feels small.
But then… Scripture whispers through the noise.
Romans 8:18 is one of those sacred whispers:
“I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us.”
Paul does not sugarcoat the suffering. He names it. Acknowledges it. He’s not pretending life is easy. He is reminding us that the pain we are carrying, while real, is not forever. It is not meaningless. It is not even close to being the end of our story.
This verse lifts my chin when my head is bowed with discouragement. It tells me:
God sees your tears.
God knows your aching heart.
And none of it is wasted.
There is a glory coming.
Not just after this life, but sometimes even within it, in glimpses. When a prayer is answered. When peace comes in the middle of a storm. When someone shows up with kindness right when you needed it most. God is always weaving something more beautiful than we can see in the moment.
But the fullness of His glory? That is still to come. And when it does, everything we have endured will fade in comparison to the radiance of His love, His presence, and the joy of being wholly, eternally home.
If today you are walking through pain, let this be your promise:
It won’t always be like this.
The glory God is preparing for you… it will be worth it. All of it.
Hold on, my sweet friend. Heaven is closer than it feels.
A prayer to carry with you:
Lord, when my heart is heavy and I don’t understand the “why,” remind me of the “Who.” Help me trust that this suffering is not the end of my story. Anchor my hope in Your promise and give me eyes to glimpse Your glory, even in small ways, until the day I see You face to face. Amen.
