Sometimes I wonder… if Jesus were sitting beside me, would I still say what I’m about to say? Would I still watch what’s playing on my screen, or scroll through what I’m scrolling through? Because, honestly, who I am is affected by who’s around me. I don’t act the same way around my dad as I do with a co-worker or a friend. Can’t you say the same?
It is easy to imagine we would act differently if we could see Jesus right next to us… if we could catch the look in His eyes, hear the tone in His voice, feel the weight of His presence in the room. But the truth is… we do not have to imagine. Because Christ is with us. Not only beside us, but within us.
Scripture says, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27). That means His Spirit actually dwells inside those who belong to Him. The same Jesus who calmed storms, forgave sinners, and carried the cross. He is right here, living in you.
When that truth sinks in, it changes everything. If I would not say it in His presence, maybe I should not say it at all. If I would not watch it with Him sitting next to me, maybe I should not hit play. If I would not drink it or post it or laugh at it with Him beside me, maybe it does not honor the One who lives within me.
That does not come from shame or fear; it is love. It is the awareness that He has chosen to make His home in me; and I want that home to reflect who He is.

Jesus said, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” (John 14:23). That means we carry His presence into every conversation, every choice, every quiet moment we think no one sees.
It is not about perfection. It’s about presence. His presence. The Holy Spirit gently reminds us: “Hey, I’m here. Let’s make this choice together.” And when we listen, when we align our hearts with that awareness, the things of this world lose their pull.
Because the more we remember He is near, the more we start to live like He really is.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:
“If Jesus were sitting beside me right now, would I live any differently?”
Let that question linger. Not to bring guilt, but to bring awareness. Because He is with you. Right here. Right now.
Prayer
Lord,
Help me live with a steady awareness of Your presence. Remind me that You are not distant or far away, but dwelling within me. Teach me to choose what honors You. May my thoughts, my words, and my actions reflect the One who lives in me.
Amen.
