Knock Knock Knock

When I clean, I like listening to my music. Now, my music taste can range from rock to classical, to boyband. There is not just one genre I listen to. But boybands are the music genre I get embarrassed to admit that I like. I love Nsync, 98 Degrees, Boyz II Men, The Wanted, Big Time Rush, etc., but New Kids on the Block are my jam! To this day, I still listen to them. I will put NKOTB on full blast when cleaning. I do all my favorite music.

So, there was this one time I was home alone with my brother. The rest of the family was out shopping, and I was doing a spring cleaning. While my brother was in his room, I had NKOTB playing all the way up, and I was singing along while mopping in the kitchen. When I was finished, I went to go grab my duster to start the next room. The thing is, my duster was on the dining room table, and I had to pass the front door (which was open for fresh air) to get to it. Well, when I did, I noticed a delivery man standing there. He heard NKOTB and me singing along. It was embarrassing. I quickly turned down my music, apologized for not hearing him or his knocking, and offered him a drink. Luckily, he just smiled, handed me my package, and left. I was so busy cleaning and enjoying my music, I did not notice the delivery man who wanted to give me my package.

Here is a picture I took of NKOTB. It was taken back in 2013 at their Package Tour concert, the first one I have ever gone to!

How many times have there been when you did not hear somebody knocking?

Sometimes, the knock is important, though. Someone is at the door; someone you cannot afford to miss. It is someone you need to invite in.  This someone is Jesus, and he is knocking on the door of your heart.

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

Revelations 3:20 NIV

What is hindering you from hearing Jesus knocking?

NKOTB hindered me from hearing the delivery guy. But at least if I never answered the door when I did, he would have just left my package at the doorway. Jesus will not do that. Granted, he is patient and persistent with his knocking and waiting at the door. But there will come a time when he will turn and leave. Do not be so busy with worldly pleasures such as money, or material possessions that you do not notice his attempts at the door.

He is not going to barge in. He does not want to break into your house. He wants you to open the door for him. To invite him in. He wants you to choose his life-changing presence and power that provides you lasting satisfaction over the pleasures of this world that only give partial satisfaction. He wants to save you, to have fellowship with you, but he wants you to want it too.

Turn down the pleasures of this world like I did NKOTB. Answer his knocking, like I did the delivery man. Jesus wants to give you the gift only he can give. He wants you to invite him in and dine with him. Maybe you hear his knocking, but you intentionally keep the door closed? You have to decide to open the door of your life, of your heart, to him; to welcome him in.

Do not ever close the door on him, either. Once you have invited him in, leave the door to your heart open to him from there on out. Then you will not need to worry about hearing his knock ever again.
