To Guard Your Heart

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23

Everything we do flows from our hearts. How can that be? Our hearts are the perfect epitome for our feelings. To be more specific, our feelings of love and desire.

Our feelings of love and desire dictate our lives. Because, let’s be real, don’t we tend to do the things we enjoy? I mean, I know I’m always making time to do the things I enjoy and love to do. I make time for them every single day.

But what are we enjoying? What are we making time for? Are what we indulging in keeping us on the right path? This is what it means to guard our hearts. We need to make sure we are focusing on the desires and affections that not only keep us on the right path, but also push us in the right direction. We need to make boundaries for ourselves. We don’t have to do this alone either, we have God’s help.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

The peace of God will guard our hearts. God’s peace isn’t the peace we may think of at first. It isn’t the absence of conflict, positive thinking, or feeling good. No, it’s simply trusting God. It’s trusting God to work everything out in a way that is best for us as we live out our role in God’s work in the world.

You see, our citizenship in God’s kingdom is sure. Our destiny is set. We can have victory over sin. Do you believe that? Do you trust in that?

Let’s trust that God will help us, guide us, convict us onto the right path. Let him guard you against the anxieties of this world, the enticements of the flesh, the sins that we desire. When we trust God, we have the clarity to choose what’s right in any situation, circumstance, and thought. We are able to guard our hearts effectively. After all, the Lord strengthens us.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

2 Thessalonians 3:3

The Lord is faithful. He will strengthen you and protect you from whatever temptations and earthly desires you may face. His piece will guard your heart and mind. So pray. It’s your best defense. When you pray in the face of temptation, you have the strength to overcome.

Have a beautiful day and coming week. God bless.
