To Become Wise

You know, when I was younger I used to think that to be wise meant you had all the knowledge in the world. But, wisdom and knowledge are two different things. Knowledge is just knowing; it is information learned. But wisdom is utilizing that knowledge in a profound way. For example, knowledge is knowing how to use a gun, while wisdom is knowing when to use it.

Knowledge can stand alone. It is something that we can always continually obtain, without having to use wisdom. But wisdom requires knowledge. So let me ask you:

When you just don’t know what to do, what do you do? What path do you walk?

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

James 1:5

I find myself facing difficult situations that I just don’t know what to do about. How do I know what the right and wise decision is? Sometimes I hope to just stumble upon the answer. But, honestly, that’s silly of me. I have God’s light, and don’t need to grope around like I’m just stumbling in the dark. No, if I honestly ask him to guide my choices with his wisdom, he will provide me with what I need.

And the wisdom that I need, and that God so generously gives is practical. Godly wisdom is Christlike. Godly wisdom is also devine.

An intelligent person can have profound ideas. But a wise person puts those ideas to use. Because, you see, godly wisdom relates to our lives even during the most trying of times. It provides us the resources needed to overcome.

Godly wisdom is just like Christ. When we pray and ask for it, we are technically asking to be more like Christ. Think about it. Didn’t Jesus have godly wisdom? I mean, it even states that Christ is not only the power of God, but the wisdom of God as well. It’s in 1 Corinthians 1:24. So, I mean, I’m going to use that overly used saying here:

What would Jesus do?

But what I really love is that godly wisdom is devine. What I mean is it goes beyond common sense. It begins with respect for Him. It guides us to follow His direction. Godly wisdom also increases our ability to tell right from wrong. But in such a way that brings about joy. Godly wisdom helps us react joyfully amongst adversity. And it’s all because of what godly wisdom embodies.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

James 3:17
What fruit do you produce?

Do you have godly wisdom? Are you wise according to the Bible?

You know what type of tree is growing by looking at the fruit it produces. So tell me what type of tree are you? Are you asking God for His Devine, Christlike, and practical wisdom? Are you making the decisions that are pure? Peace-loving? Considerate? Submissive? Merciful? Sincere?

Godly wisdom leads to peace and goodness. He’s willing to help you and your situation result in peace and goodness. Will you let Him? Will you ask for wisdom?

How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

Proverbs 16:16
