Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
Matthew 7:6
Who are the dogs? Who are the pigs? It’s those who are set in their ways. Those who pay no mind to what you say or do as you’re shining God’s light. It’s those who listen to you, but only to reply and insult you. Not to hear what you have to say. It’s those who use scapegoating too. Twisting things around where you’re at fault. They are never in the wrong in their minds.
Now, what is sacred? What are the pearls? It’s the Good News. It’s God’s light shining in you. It’s what the Holy Spirit is doing in you. It’s your godly characteristics, your godly conduct.
Remember the parable of the seeds?

“A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” - Luke 8:5-8
Those on the path hear you, but aren’t listening to what you have to say and will reject it out right. Those on the rocky ground hear you and are listening, but revert back to their ways. Those on the thorns hear, but because of their worry, fear, and worldly distractions struggle to mature. Those on good soil hear, retain, and produce good fruit.
Let’s put it another way. We all have a scent, a smell. For women it’s a type of perfume, for men it’s cologne… But that scent is the scent of Christ. To some, that scent is going to smell wonderful! But to others, it’s going to stink.
Path people think you stink. They will refuse to believe God’s Good News. Rocky soil people will find your scent appealing, but won’t want to wear the scent themselves. Thorn patch people are too afraid to give your scent a try. They will stick to their scent that they are comfortable with. Good soil people love your scent and will take on the scent themselves.

Path people are the dogs and pigs.
Jesus shines God’s light. He shares the Good News. He is the Holy Spirit. The perfect example of godly characteristics and conduct (only because he is God himself). His scent is the strongest. But did the Pharisees and religious leaders like him? Did Jesus spend most of his ministry focusing on them? Did he give to the dogs what is sacred? Did he throw his pearls to the pigs?
Always shine God’s light. Live your born again life. Show what the Holy Spirit has done in you. For it’s a wonderful and beautiful thing!! Spread the Good News, and let all see God’s light in you. Share with everyone. Just don’t be surprised when you bump into those who hate you for it. Who insult you, reject you, and are stuck in their ways. They will take what you have to offer and trample it under their feet.
But don’t ever stoop to their level, either. Don’t ever argue back with them, insult them, reject them. Most of all, don’t hate them. Their hearts may be hardened right now, but you never know what will happen in the future. So love them, be kind to them. But keep your distance from them. Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs.
