Words Are Fruit

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life. It can speak truth, encourage, uplift, and rejuvenate another. It helps another along.

When you hear encouragement, how do you feel? What goes through your mind when someone is trying to uplift your spirit when you are down and out? The truth hurts, doesn’t it? But it’s better than to be comforted with a lie, don’t you think? Had someone’s words ever given you strength before? You eat their words. You fill up on what’s being told of you.

The tongue also has the power of death. It can be filled with lies, discouragement, tearing down, and hurting another. It can harm and hinder others.

How do you feel when someone lies to you? When someone discourages you? Do you cry when someone tears you down and hurts your feelings? You’ve tasted their words and it’s disgusting. Don’t fill up on their words.

What are you taking in?

But what happens when you don’t like what is being said to you? You push their words away, right? Discard them like they mean nothing. It may not even be when they’re lying to you, or trying to hurt you. Sometimes it’s when they do tell you the truth or speak words of life.

I’ve had that happen to me before. I shared the truth of The Word with someone, only to be rejected. She obviously did not like what I was saying. Because she did not like what was being said, she did not eat the fruit of the words I was saying.

Those who love it will eat it’s fruit. But just because they do not eat, does not mean you do not feed them.

Always speak life. Share the Word in voice and action. Speak truth, encourage, uplift, and rejuvenate. Lay out your fruit in front of others. Because there will always be someone who loves it and will eat it.

  1. Wonderful words of wisdom. It is amazing how words remain in one’s head decades after an event. They have the power to encourage or destroy one’s spirit. Probably the words we speak to ourselves have the most power. That is why it’s important to impart God’s Word deeply in our hearts and minds most of all! Blessings back, Ellie
