True Freedom

For many people, this week is a celebration of freedom. Families gather together, fireworks fill the sky, and people reflect on the blessings they have in their country.

But while our earthly freedoms are something to be thankful for, they remind me of an even greater freedom that every believer can celebrate.

The freedom Jesus Christ purchased on the cross.

Before Christ, we were slaves to sin. We couldn’t rescue ourselves, no matter how hard we tried. But because of His death and resurrection, we have been set free. Free from the penalty of sin. Free from condemnation. Free to walk in a new life with Him.

That doesn’t mean life suddenly becomes easy. We still face temptation, suffering, and heartbreak. But we no longer face them as prisoners. We face them as children of God.

Whether you live in America, Canada, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, or anywhere else in the world, this freedom belongs to every person who has placed their faith in Jesus.

As I celebrate this week, I’m grateful for the country God has placed me in. But I’m even more grateful that my greatest citizenship isn’t here on earth, it’s in heaven.

So wherever you’re reading this from, take a moment to thank Jesus for the freedom that can never be taken away.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36

Abba Father,
Thank You for the freedom You have given us through Your Son. Thank You that no earthly circumstance can take away the hope we have in Christ. Help us never take Your sacrifice for granted. Teach us to live each day as people who have been set free. Not to return to sin, but to walk in obedience, love, and gratitude.
May our lives point others to the One who truly sets people free.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
